WASHINGTON – Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT), a co-chair of the House Democratic Caucus Prescription Drug Task Force, issued the following statement in support of S.216, Vermont’s new law that will require drug makers to justify prescription drug price increases to consumers. Governor Peter Shumlin signed the first-of-its-kind legislation Thursday.

Protecting Consumers from Fuel Mandates
U.S. Representatives Bill Flores (R-TX), Peter Welch (D-VT), Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and Jim Costa (D-CA) have introduced bipartisan legislation to address issues surrounding the fuel mandates of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). The Food and Fuel Consumer Protection Act, H.R. 5180, limits the RFS mandate to levels that our nation’s cars, trucks, boats and other small engines can safely accommodate.

Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT) Monday announced the winner of the 35th Annual Congressional Art Competition at the Vermont College of Fine Arts in Montpelier. Peri Kate Navarro of Colchester and Colchester High School won first-place honors for her mixed-media painting, “The Wanderer”. Navarro’s piece was selected from a field of 141 entries from students representing 31 high schools across Vermont.

Initiative included in a package of committee bills addressing opioid crisis
The House Energy and Commerce Committee today approved an initiative by Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT) that would help law enforcement gain access to real-time information on drug overdoses. The Examining Opioid Treatment Infrastructure Act (H.R. 4982), as amended by Welch’s initiative, was unanimously approved by the committee and will now head to the floor of the House of Representatives for a vote.
