Welch Reaction to Trump Retreat on Migrant Family Separation Policy

Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s apparent retreat on his policy of separating migrant children from their parents. On Sunday, Welch visited several migrant detention facilities along the Texas-Mexico border.

“In a head spinning reversal, the president appears to have backed down on his cynical decision to separate innocent migrant children from their parents. While welcome news, the devil is in the details and his follow through. I will remain vocal and vigilant because too often with this president, what he says is not always what he does. I have no doubt that he will continue to use as leverage the plight of migrant families and Dreamers to gain congressional approval of extreme immigration policies, including spending billions of taxpayer dollars on an unnecessary border wall.”
