Rep. Peter Welch issued the following statement after President Obama's speech on the future of the war in Afghanistan.
"The United States went into Afghanistan for two reasons: to bring Osama bin Laden to justice and to degrade and disrupt al Qaeda. Our military has accomplished both goals. Bin Laden is dead and there are now fewer than 100 al Qaeda in Afghanistan.

Peter Shumlin and Vermont's Congressional delegation announced tonight that federal aid would become available to Vermont homeowners and renters in seven counties hardest hit by this spring's flooding. Rep. Peter Welch spent Saturday morning fishing on Lake Champlain to encourage Vermonters to get out and enjoy all the lake and local businesses have to offer. Lake and recreational related business has been slow due to the unusually wet spring in Vermont.
