The Community Health Center in Burlington will receive $10.9 million in federal economic-stimulus funding to construct a new energy-efficient building, twice as big as the existing structure on Riverside Avenue.
A leaner form of a home retrofitting program introduced in Congress by Rep. Peter Welch is now a cornerstone of a strategy aimed at putting Americans back to work that was outlined Tuesday by President Barack Obama.
Energy proposal
President Barack Obama’s plan to help homeowners pay for energy improvements, nicknamed “cash for caulkers,” would also aid companies such as insulation maker Dow Chemical Co. and retailers Home Depot Inc. and Lowe’s Cos.
The House will move as early as next week on a jobs bill anchored by at least $75 billion in spending on infrastructure, according to House Democrats.
“We’re moving on jobs,” Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), a chief deputy whip, said following a Tuesday afternoon Democratic Caucus meeting.
